Temporary Visas

Each year, over 35 million people come to visit, study or work in Canada.  If you are coming to Canada as a student or to work, you will generally require a study or work permit.

In some cases, if you are coming to Canada as a tourist, student or to work, you may also require a Temporary Resident Visa.

At Karmali Farrimond LLP, we can advise you on whether you will require a Temporary Resident Visa for your stay in Canada and prepare any applications you require for a Work Permit, Study Permit, Student Work Permit or Visitor’s Visa.

Work Permit

Every year, close to 100,000 foreign workers come to Canada to work in jobs that help to fill skill and labour shortages in Canada.

You will generally require a work visa (work permit) if you are coming to Canada to work temporarily.  Some particular occupations (including business visitors) do not require a work permit.

Our lawyers can determine your eligibility under the various programs for temporary work permits in Canada (e.g. NAFTA, live-in-caregivers and agricultural workers) and prepare your application to work legally in Canada, extend your work permit or apply for a new work permit with a different employer.

Study Permit

Each year, over 130,000 students come to study in Canada.  An even larger number of individuals come to learn English or French in Canada.  Canada is home to some of the world’s most highly-regarded post-secondary universities, colleges, research facilities and academic faculty.

In most cases, you must obtain a Student Permit (student visa) if you want to study in Canada.

A Temporary Resident Visa will also be required for entry to Canada unless you are a citizen of a country from which Canada does not require a travel visa.

We can advise
you on whether you will need a Study Permit and Temporary Resident Visa and prepare your application(s) before your arrival to Canada.

Student Work Permit

There are opportunities to work in
Canada while you are here as a student. To do so, you will require a Student Work Permit if you wish to work off-campus, participate in a co-op or internship program or work in Canada after you graduate.

If your spouse or common-law partner would like to work in Canada while you are a student, they will also require a Work Permit.

We can prepare each of your applications for a Student Work Permit at an affordable rate.

Visitor's Visa

Canada requires citizens from some countries to obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (Visitor's Visa) before they may enter Canada.

We can advise you whether you will
require a visa to visit or travel through Canada and prepare any necessary applications for you.
